Natural deodorant that actually works

The challenge with natural deodorants isn't the concept — it's the execution. Most either don't work well enough, irritate sensitive skin, or leave a white residue that transfers to clothing. This formula addresses all three.

Bicarbonate of soda is the active odour-neutralising ingredient — it works by creating an alkaline environment that inhibits the odour-causing bacteria responsible for underarm smell. It's one of the most effective natural alternatives to aluminium salts, and unlike antiperspirants it works with your body rather than blocking it — neutralising odour without preventing natural perspiration.

Arrowroot powder works alongside the bicarbonate to absorb excess moisture, keeping underarms feeling dry and comfortable without the occlusive, pore-blocking effect of conventional antiperspirants.

The butter and oil base — caprylic/capric triglyceride from coconut, mango seed butter, and shea butter — creates a smooth, skin-nourishing application that conditions the underarm skin while delivering the active ingredients. Candelilla wax gives the formula its solid stick structure and keeps it suitable for vegans. Vitamin E provides natural antioxidant support.

Lemon peel oil and peppermint essential oil create the most invigorating scent combination in the deodorant range. Lemon peel — cold-pressed from the fruit — is bright, clean, and instantly refreshing. Peppermint adds an intensely cooling, mentholated character that creates a genuinely wake-up sensation on application. The combination is sharp, clean, and energising — perfect for morning use or post-workout freshness.

How to use

Hold the deodorant against your underarm for a few seconds to warm and soften slightly, then glide over clean, dry skin. Two to three swipes per side is sufficient. Allow a moment to absorb before dressing. You'll notice a refreshing cooling sensation on application — this is the peppermint and is completely normal.

💡 Transitioning tip: If you're switching from a conventional antiperspirant, give your body two to three weeks to adjust. This is completely normal and temporary.

Does this deodorant actually work? Yes — but it works differently to a conventional antiperspirant. Antiperspirants use aluminium salts to block sweat glands and prevent perspiration. This deodorant uses bicarbonate of soda to create an alkaline environment that inhibits the odour-causing bacteria responsible for underarm smell, combined with arrowroot powder to absorb excess moisture. You may still perspire — sweating is a natural and healthy bodily function — but odour is neutralised effectively throughout the day.

Why do I feel a cooling sensation when I apply this? The cooling sensation comes from the peppermint essential oil, which contains naturally occurring menthol. Menthol activates the skin's cold receptors, creating a cooling sensation without actually changing the temperature of the skin. It's completely normal, expected, and for most people genuinely pleasant — particularly on a warm morning. If you find it too intense, try one of our other deodorant variants.

Is this deodorant suitable for sensitive skin? The formula is free from aluminium, parabens, and synthetic fragrance. However, peppermint essential oil contains naturally occurring menthol which can cause sensitivity in some people — particularly those with very reactive skin or known sensitivity to menthol. If you're unsure, we'd recommend starting with our Lavender & Bergamot or Geranium & Grapefruit variants, which use gentler essential oil blends.

Will this leave white marks on my clothes? No — the formula is designed to absorb cleanly without transferring white residue to clothing. Allow a moment to absorb before dressing for the best result.

What is candelilla wax and why is it used instead of beeswax? Candelilla wax is a plant-derived wax from the candelilla shrub, native to Mexico. It provides the solid stick structure while keeping the formula entirely plant-based and suitable for vegans.
