A finely milled, powder-format clay face mask handcrafted in West Wittering from just four natural ingredients. Mix to your preferred consistency, apply, and let the clays do what they do best — drawing impurities to the surface, absorbing excess sebum, and leaving skin feeling genuinely clean, calm, and refreshed. Suitable for sensitive, reactive, and menopausal skin.
Why a powder mask?
Powder masks have one significant advantage over pre-mixed formulas: no water means no need for preservatives, and no preservatives means a purer, simpler formula that sensitive skin can tolerate far more easily. You mix each application fresh, control the consistency yourself, and can customise what you mix it with — water, floral water, honey, or yoghurt — depending on what your skin needs that day.
At the heart of this formula are two complementary clays. French pink clay is the gentler of the two — a soft, finely milled, mineral-rich clay. It's well suited to sensitive and mature skin because it absorbs impurities without over-stripping the skin's natural oils. Kaolin clay is the mildest cosmetic clay available, adding a soft, silky texture to the mask while supporting gentle surface exfoliation without abrasion.
Together they create a mask that cleanses thoroughly without the harshness of more aggressive exfoliants or deep-cleansing clays like bentonite — making it suitable for regular use and safe for the sensitised, thinner skin that often accompanies menopause.
Calendula powder — milled from the whole dried flower — adds natural skin-calming properties and a beautiful golden fleck to the mask. Calendula has been used in botanical skincare for centuries for its gentle, soothing reputation, and in powder form it integrates beautifully into the clay base. Geranium essential oil completes the formula, contributing its naturally balancing and complexion-supporting properties alongside a light, fresh botanical scent.

How to use
In a small bowl, mix 1–2 teaspoons of powder with a few drops of water or floral water — our Balancing Toner works beautifully here — to your preferred consistency. Thin for a light refresh, thicker for a deeper treatment. Apply evenly to face with clean fingers or a mask brush, avoiding the eye area. Leave for 10–15 minutes, or until just beginning to dry — don't let it crack completely. Rinse gently with warm water and a soft cloth, then follow with toner and moisturiser.
✨ Top tip: Mix with raw honey for natural humectant properties, or plain unsweetened natural yoghurt for a gentle lactic acid boost — both make lovely alternatives to water on days when your skin needs extra nourishment.
✨ Floral water tip: Mix with our Balancing Geranium Toner instead of plain water to complement the geranium in the mask and add an extra layer of skin-balancing botanical goodness.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this face mask suitable for sensitive or menopausal skin? Yes — it's specifically formulated with gentleness as the priority. French pink clay and kaolin are two of the mildest cosmetic clays available, chosen precisely because they absorb impurities without stripping the skin's natural oils. The powder format means no preservatives are needed, reducing the risk of irritation from synthetic additives. Calendula powder adds natural soothing properties, and there is no synthetic fragrance — only geranium essential oil at a skin-safe concentration.
What is French pink clay and how is it different from other clays? French pink clay is a soft, finely milled, mineral-rich clay — ultra ventilated for an exceptionally light, silky texture. It sits at the gentle end of the clay spectrum, making it well suited to sensitive and mature skin. Unlike more aggressive clays such as bentonite or fuller's earth, it won't over-strip or leave skin feeling tight and uncomfortable. The ultra ventilated milling process gives it a particularly fine particle size, which means it blends smoothly and applies evenly without dragging on the skin.
Why is this mask in powder form rather than pre-mixed? Powder masks have a significant formulation advantage: because there's no water in the formula, no preservative system is needed. Pre-mixed clay masks require preservatives to remain safe — and those preservatives are among the most common triggers for skin sensitivity. By mixing fresh with each use, you get a purer, simpler formula with a longer shelf life and complete flexibility over consistency and what you mix it with.
Can I mix this mask with something other than water? Absolutely — and we encourage it. Our Balancing Geranium Toner makes a lovely mixing liquid that complements the geranium in the mask. Raw honey adds natural humectant and skin-soothing properties. Plain unsweetened natural yoghurt contains lactic acid, which provides a very gentle additional exfoliation. Plain water works perfectly well too — the choice is yours depending on what your skin needs that day.
How often should I use a clay face mask? For most skin types, once or twice a week is ideal. Because this formula uses two of the gentlest cosmetic clays available, it can be used more frequently if your skin tolerates it well. For sensitive or menopausal skin, we'd suggest starting with once a week and increasing if your skin responds well. Always follow with toner and moisturiser.
Is this mask suitable as a gift? Yes — it's presented in a recyclable PET jar inside a gift-worthy box, making it one of our most popular choices for gifting. The powder format also means it travels well and has an excellent shelf life, so there's no rush to use it quickly.
