A finely milled, powder-format clay face mask handcrafted in West Wittering from a trio of mineral-rich clays and pure lavender essential oil. Designed for a deeper, more thorough cleanse than gentler clay masks — ideal for oily, combination, and congested skin, or anyone who wants a genuine weekly deep-cleanse treatment.
Three clays. One seriously good cleanse.
Where the Puremess Pink Clay Mask is designed for gentleness, this one is designed for thoroughness. The three-clay blend here works at different levels of the skin's surface to absorb excess sebum, draw impurities upward, and leave pores looking visibly cleaner and more refined.
Dead Sea clay forms the mineral backbone of this formula. Sourced from the sediment of the Dead Sea — one of the most mineral-dense bodies of water on earth — it's naturally rich in magnesium, calcium, potassium, and sodium, minerals that have been associated with skin conditioning and supporting the skin's natural balance. It's the ingredient that gives this mask its distinctive depth and mineral richness.
French green clay — also known as sea silt clay — is one of the most absorbent cosmetic clays available. Its green hue comes from decomposed plant matter and iron oxides, and its exceptional oil-absorbing capacity makes it particularly effective for oily and combination skin. It draws excess sebum and surface impurities to the skin's surface efficiently and thoroughly.
Bentonite completes the trio. Formed from volcanic ash, it's the most powerful of the three clays in terms of absorbency — swelling slightly when mixed with liquid to create a deep-cleansing action that pulls impurities from the pore. It's the ingredient that gives this mask its characteristic tightening sensation as it dries, and the satisfying clean feeling after rinsing.
Pure lavender essential oil brings balance to what could otherwise be quite an intense formula. Naturally calming and skin-compatible, it offsets the deep-cleansing action of the clays and contributes a genuinely beautiful, spa-like scent — from the plant itself, not a synthetic fragrance.
What's in it — and why
- Dead Sea clay (Kaolin, Dead Sea) — mineral-rich sediment clay; naturally high in magnesium, calcium, potassium and sodium; conditions and supports the skin's natural mineral balance
- French green clay (Sea silt) — one of the most absorbent cosmetic clays; draws excess sebum and surface impurities efficiently; ideal for oily and combination skin
- Bentonite — volcanic ash-derived clay; highly absorbent with a characteristic pore-cleansing action; creates the satisfying tightening sensation as the mask dries
- Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia) — pure, plant-derived; naturally calming and skin-compatible; contributes a genuine botanical spa scent
Full INCI: Kaolin, Montmorillonite (Bentonite), [Sea Silt/Green Clay INCI to confirm], Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Oil, Linalool**, Geraniol** **Naturally occurring in essential oils
How to use
In a small bowl, mix 1–2 teaspoons of powder with a few drops of water or floral water to your preferred consistency — thin for a lighter weekly refresh, thicker for a deeper treatment. Apply evenly to face with clean fingers or a mask brush, avoiding the eye area. Leave for 10–15 minutes, or until just beginning to dry — don't let it crack completely, as over-drying can leave skin feeling tight. Rinse gently with warm water and a soft cloth, then follow with toner and moisturiser.
✨ Top tip: Mix with raw honey for natural humectant properties, or plain unsweetened natural yoghurt for a gentle lactic acid boost — both help counterbalance the deep-cleansing action of the clays and leave skin feeling nourished rather than stripped.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this mask best suited to? This mask is designed for oily, combination, and congested skin — or anyone who wants a genuinely thorough weekly deep-cleanse treatment. The three-clay blend is more absorbent and active than gentler formulas like our Pink Clay Mask, making it particularly effective for skin that tends to feel congested, shiny, or prone to enlarged-looking pores. If you have sensitive, reactive, or very dry skin, we'd recommend our Pink Clay Mask instead, which uses a much gentler clay combination.
What makes Dead Sea clay special? Dead Sea clay is sourced from the sediment of the Dead Sea — one of the most mineral-dense bodies of water on earth. It's naturally rich in magnesium, calcium, potassium, and sodium, minerals that have long been associated with skin conditioning and supporting the skin's natural balance. It's distinct from standard kaolin or bentonite in its mineral profile, and gives this mask a depth and richness that single-clay formulas can't match.
What is bentonite clay and is it safe for skin? Bentonite is a naturally occurring clay formed from volcanic ash. It's highly absorbent — more so than kaolin or pink clay — and has a characteristic pore-cleansing action when mixed with liquid. It's been used in cosmetic formulations for decades and is well within established safety guidelines at the concentrations used in face masks. It's the ingredient responsible for the satisfying tightening sensation as the mask dries, and the very clean feeling after rinsing. It is, however, quite powerful — which is why we don't recommend this mask for sensitive or very dry skin.
How is this mask different from the Puremess Pink Clay Mask? The Pink Clay Mask uses French pink clay and kaolin — two of the gentlest cosmetic clays available — making it ideal for sensitive, reactive, and menopausal skin. This Dead Sea Clay Mask uses a more active three-clay blend including bentonite and French green clay, giving it significantly greater absorbency and cleansing depth. Think of the Pink Clay Mask as your gentle daily companion and the Dead Sea Mask as your weekly deep-cleanse treatment.
How often should I use this mask? Once a week is ideal for most skin types. Because this formula contains bentonite — one of the more absorbent cosmetic clays — using it more frequently than once or twice a week risks over-stripping the skin's natural oils, even for oilier skin types. Always follow with toner and moisturiser to rebalance after use.
Can I mix this mask with something other than water? Yes — raw honey adds natural humectant properties that help counterbalance the deep-cleansing action of the clays, leaving skin feeling nourished rather than stripped. Plain unsweetened natural yoghurt provides a gentle lactic acid boost. Both are lovely options, particularly if your skin tends toward combination rather than oily. Plain water or floral water work perfectly well too.
